How did you get involved with Star Wars and concept art?
I had worked with Neal Scanlan on various projects on and off between 1999 and maybe 2005. After that our careers diverged – Neal was doing more SMUFX and prosthetics jobs and I was focusing more on storyboarding and directing in commercials. I don’t think I’d actually spoken to Neal for about five years when he called me out of the blue in early June 2013 telling me he’d got Star Wars and was looking to put together a concept design team. Would I be interested? Uh…yes, I think I would. I had to do a trial week putting some ideas together for a brief on a character that would eventually become Maz to get the job and started properly on the film mid-June.

How did you get involved with the Star Wars franchise?
The first time I worked on a Star Wars film was in 2001, I was living and working in Sydney at the time and was asked if I would like to join the costume props department on Ep II , Attack of the Clones, I worked on Zam Wesell’s outfit, Jango Fett’s armour, and various jewellery and head dresses for Amidala .Then, a couple of years later I was hired again to work on Ep III, Revenge of the Sith, as a part of the team who recreated Darth Vader’s outfit , and I sculpted Mon Mothma’s head dress and other items of jewellery amongst other things. In 2013, after having moved to the UK in 2005, I received a call from Neal Scanlan asking me if I would like to join his team on The Force Awakens, I had previously worked for Neal Scanlan on Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, It didn’t take me long to give him a positive answer…

When I read a film novelisation, I look for things that may not have featured in the film, or scenes that have been expanded on to further enhance the story; Alan Dean Fosters provides readers with some extra scenes, more character insight as well as answers several questions asked after watching the The Force Awakens.

Aftermath is the first in Chuck Wendig’s Star Wars trilogy, and takes place after the events of Return of the Jedi. Jaschco Phurus was a human male pirate who prowled the Arrowhead Region of the galaxy east of the planet Coruscant. Around thirty years after the Battle of Endor, Phurus was standing next to the wall opposite the entrance to Maz Kanata’s castle on the planet Takodana when the smuggler Han Solo entered with the scavenger Rey, the former stormtrooper Finn and the astromech droid BB-8. Shortly after their entrance, many of the castle’s patrons, Phurus included, rushed outside to witness the destruction of the Hosnian system by the First Order’s Starkiller Base super weapon, after which First Order forces attacked and destroyed Kanata’s castle.

I managed to get the chance to interview Mason Ball recently. Mason was the man behind Praster Ommlen in The Force Awakens.
The Ottegan male known as Praster Ommlen worked as a gunrunner before putting his life of crime behind him and becoming a devotee of the Sacred Order of Ramulus, an Ithorian sect of worship. Around thirty years after the Battle of Endor, Ommlen spent time in the castle of the pirate Maz Kanata, where he offered spiritual advice to other criminals. While there he connected with the Narquois bandit Pru Sweevant and the Bravaisian gemologists Munduri and Sonsigo.

In a recent interview I conducted, I asked Keith De Winter several questions about his time playing Goss Toowers in Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens.
Goss Toowers was a male member of the Shozer species who lived approximately thirty years after the Battle of Endor. He was part of the Resistance and served on the technical crew that provided mechanical support to the Resistance’s fleet of starfighters. A hard worker, Toowers’ duties also included the monitoring of arriving and departing ships. Toowers was present at the Resistance base located on the planet D’Qar shortly before the Battle of Starkiller Base.

Paul Warren is an actor known for playing characters in prosthetic makeup and creature suits in such films as Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Guardians of the Galaxy, Thor: The Dark World, Clash of the Titans and World War Z.
Paul was the man behind Varmik in The Force Awakens as well as a dowager alien during the Canto Bight scenes in the Last Jedi. Aayla Secura is a Twi’Lek Jedi master most commonly known for serving as a general in the infamous Clone Wars.
Aayla Secura was trained as a Jedi Guardian which entailed her having to focus more on her combat skills and becoming an impressively skilled fighter. Secura’s lightsaber skills allowed her to survive the battle of Geonosis, hold her own against General Grievous, as well as overpowering the skilled bounty hunter Aurra Sing in a duel. She had also grown adept at unarmed fighting, especially while sparring with Commander Bly and she also survived an encounter with Dark Acolyte Asajj Ventress.

When the Force Awakens was released in 2015, the world was introduced to Maz Kanata, a force-sensitive female known as the “Pirate Queen”. Throughout the film, there wasn’t any signs to suggest how Maz got to where she is now, and also, how she ended up with Luke Skywalkers lightsaber. As the Last Jedi is drawing closer, I decided to do some digging to find out as much as I can about Maz and here is what was uncovered.
Maz (Played by Lupita Nyong’o) is a humanoid with force capabilities who was born over a millennium before the war between the Resistance and the First Order.

As the Force Awakens drew to a close, Rey, Chewbacca and R2-D2 travelled towards the island of Ahch-To. The final moments of the film see Rey and Luke coming face to face as Rey offers forward Luke’s lightsaber, and although the island seems very deserted, Luke isn’t the only occupant on the island.
