Jake Lunt Davies Interview – Concept Artist

How did you get involved with Star Wars and concept art?

I had worked with Neal Scanlan on various projects on and off between 1999 and maybe 2005. After that our careers diverged – Neal was doing more SMUFX and prosthetics jobs and I was focusing more on storyboarding and directing in commercials. I don’t think I’d actually spoken to Neal for about five years when he called me out of the blue in early June 2013 telling me he’d got Star Wars and was looking to put together a concept design team. Would I be interested? Uh…yes, I think I would. I had to do a trial week putting some ideas together for a brief on a character that would eventually become Maz to get the job and started properly on the film mid-June.

Martin Rezard Interview – Sculptor & Concept Artist.

How did you get involved with the Star Wars franchise?

The first time I worked on a Star Wars film was in 2001, I was living and working in Sydney at the time and was asked if I would like to join the costume props department on Ep II , Attack of the Clones, I worked on Zam Wesell’s outfit, Jango Fett’s armour, and various jewellery and head dresses for Amidala .Then, a couple of years later I was hired again to work on Ep III, Revenge of the Sith, as a part of the team who recreated Darth Vader’s outfit  , and I sculpted Mon Mothma’s head dress and other items of jewellery amongst other things. In 2013, after having moved to the UK in 2005, I received a call from Neal Scanlan asking me if I would like to join his team on The Force Awakens, I had previously worked for Neal Scanlan on Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, It didn’t take me long to give him a positive answer…

The Brotherhood of the Beatific Countenance was a Force-based Lorrdian religious group that was active during the reign of the Galactic Empire. Most members of the Brotherhood were clad in heavy vermilionrobes and cowls to represent a physical vow of silence, a counter to their natural physical expressiveness. Some followers carried staff-mounted censers filled with burningQatameric incensethat permeated through their heavy fabrics and masked their natural scent. In-keeping with the faith’s concealment of individuality, some members went so far as to strip themselves of their own names, such as the High Priest, who was referred to by his followers only by a keening wail of a specific pitch. Some members, such as leaders of a congregation, wore Blue Gowns of the Sullen Moon and Lorrdian Cowls of Quiescence.

Victor Botha Interview -Death Trooper

I recently got the chance to interview Victor Botha, formerly in the British army, but now a Death Trooper in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Death troopers were an elite variant of the Galactic Empire’s stormtroopers who were part of Imperial Intelligence. They served as protective details and bodyguards for important Imperial officers and members of the Tarkin Initiative, as well as being used as special-mission experts. They wore black suits of armour and specialized helmets that scrambled verbal communications. Death troopers were trained in unarmed combat, heavy weapons, and sniping. Specializing in commando missions, the troopers were experts at covering their tracks, leaving little to no evidence of their missions.

There will be no extraction. You find him? You kill him…those are your orders.―Draven to Cassian Andor

He was stationed at the Great Temple on the moon Yavin 4 when Jyn Ersowas given the task of stealing the Death Star plans by Mon Mothma, a leader of the Rebel Alliance. Extraction Team Bravo, the team responsible for Jyn’s break out of a labor camp on the planet Wobani, was under Draven’s command.
