How did you get involved with Star Wars and concept art?
I had worked with Neal Scanlan on various projects on and off between 1999 and maybe 2005. After that our careers diverged – Neal was doing more SMUFX and prosthetics jobs and I was focusing more on storyboarding and directing in commercials. I don’t think I’d actually spoken to Neal for about five years when he called me out of the blue in early June 2013 telling me he’d got Star Wars and was looking to put together a concept design team. Would I be interested? Uh…yes, I think I would. I had to do a trial week putting some ideas together for a brief on a character that would eventually become Maz to get the job and started properly on the film mid-June.Continue reading “Jake Lunt Davies Interview – Concept Artist”
To crack heavily armoured targets, the Resistance called upon two squadrons of MG-100 StarFortress bombers laden with powerful proton bombs. The bombers were committed to another mission during the raid on Starkiller Base, but rushed back to D’Qar for the base’s evacuation. Escorted by swift starfighters, Cobalt Squadron attacked the initial wave of First Order warships to buy time for Leia Organa’s freedom fighters to escape. All of the bombers were lost, along with their crews, in this desperate mission.Continue reading “Kevin Layne Interview – Resistance Bomber Pilot”
One of the main criticisms of The Force Awakens when it was released in 2015 was the lack of Captain Phasma, despite being one of the main characters heavily used to market the film. If Delilah S. Dawson’s book Phasma is anything to go off, fans will want to see as much of the character as they possibly can in the foreseeable future. Continue reading “Star Wars: Phasma – Book Review”
Temiri Blagg, a Force-sensitive male, was a child who lived a forlorn existence working as a stable hand in the Canto Casino during the First Order–Resistance war. He was part of a team of urchins—children abandoned on the planet Cantonica as a result of gambling losses—who oversaw the racing fathiers of Canto Bight under the management of Bargwill Tomder. In 34 ABY, he briefly encountered the Resistance operatives Rose Tico and Finn, who were attempting to evade the officers of the Canto Bight Police Department. Finn and Tico ultimately escaped Canto Bight with the help of Blagg and his fellow urchins, who released the fathiers from the stables, resulting in the animals stampeding through the city and escaping into the desert.Continue reading “Temirlan Blaev Interview – Temiri Blagg”
Cobalt Squadron is a short YA novel that details a mission undertaken by the Resistance that ends up concurring with the First Order’s attack on the Hosnian System. The squadron end up following Vice Admiral Holdo as she assists the evacuation of D’Qar, the resistance base being destroyed at the start of The Last Jedi.
Although the book is short, readers get a more in depth insight to the relationship between the Tico sisters, Rose and Paige. It covers their backstory and how the ended up joining the resistance as well as how they were separated for the first time ever flying on separate ships during the events of The Last Jedi.Continue reading “Star Wars: Cobalt Squadron – Book Review.”
Back in January, I got in contact with Jerri Quinn, the manager of Mike Quinn regarding the possibility of interviewing him about his portrayal of one of my favourite Star Wars characters Nien Nunb. Here we are towards the end of March and the possibility of an interview became a reality. This has been an interview I was extremely excited to conduct and I am thrilled with the answers Mike Provided.Continue reading “Mike Quinn Interview – The Man Behind the Beloved Nien Nunb!”
In a recent interview I conducted, I asked Keith De Winter several questions about his time playing Goss Toowers in Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens.
Goss Toowers was a male member of the Shozer species who lived approximately thirty years after the Battle of Endor. He was part of the Resistance and served on the technical crew that provided mechanical support to the Resistance’s fleet of starfighters. A hard worker, Toowers’ duties also included the monitoring of arriving and departing ships. Toowers was present at the Resistance base located on the planet D’Qar shortly before the Battle of Starkiller Base.Continue reading “Keith De Winter Interview – Goss Toowers.”
Tim Rose was introduced to the Star Wars universe during Return of the Jedi, where he played the Character Admiral Ackbar who he also played in the Force Awakens and will also be featured in the Last Jedi this December. Tim has been involved with other Lucasfilm productions during his time as a puppeteer and actor in movies such as the Dark Crystal and Howard the Duck.
I was extremely lucky to catch Tim between shooting different projects and got to ask him a few things about his time in Star Wars.Continue reading “Tim Rose Interview: Admiral Ackbar, Salacious Crumb & Sy Snootles.”
When the Force Awakens was released in 2015, the world was introduced to Maz Kanata, a force-sensitive female known as the “Pirate Queen”. Throughout the film, there wasn’t any signs to suggest how Maz got to where she is now, and also, how she ended up with Luke Skywalkers lightsaber. As the Last Jedi is drawing closer, I decided to do some digging to find out as much as I can about Maz and here is what was uncovered.
Maz (Played by Lupita Nyong’o) is a humanoid with force capabilities who was born over a millennium before the war between the Resistance and the First Order.Continue reading “Exploring the Life of Maz Kanata and Her Growing Importance to the Resistance.”
As the Force Awakens drew to a close, Rey, Chewbacca and R2-D2 travelled towards the island of Ahch-To. The final moments of the film see Rey and Luke coming face to face as Rey offers forward Luke’s lightsaber, and although the island seems very deserted, Luke isn’t the only occupant on the island.Continue reading “Meet the Habitants of Ahch-To.”

With the release of Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens in 2015, and the introduction of new characters such as Rey, Finn, Poe, Kylo Ren and Supreme Leader Snoke amongst several others, there has been a lot of speculation as to what the backstories of these characters are.Continue reading “Is Mace Windu, Supreme Leader Snoke?”
