Smuggler’s Run sees an older Han Solo recounting a story from his past. Han’s story is about a mission he and Chewbacca were sent on by Leia and the Rebellion in order to find Rebel spy Ematt who has been stranded on the planet Cyrkon.
It wouldn’t be a Han Solo story if he wasn’t being tracked down by bounty hunters for owing someone money, in this case it’s the notorious gang leader Jabba the Hutt. Han doesn’t just find himself in conflict with the bounty hunters, but also a group of Imperials led by Commander Alicia Beck who are tracking Ematt.
Beck is your typical Imperial Commander, ruthless and efficient and she’s also very interesting in her own right; I would like to see more of the character further down the line whether in books, comics or live action form. The Imperials and the Bounty Hunters make for some really fun and action packed scenarios and it was a delight to read.
The best part of the book isn’t the story itself though, it’s the portrayal of the characters; Greg Rucka does a fantastic job of taking the Han Solo we all love in the movies and putting him in novel form, and that’s the same for Chewbacca.
If you’re a Star Wars fan who loves diving in to the adventures of Han and Chewie, then you should definitely purchase a copy of this book. It’s an exciting adventure from start to finish that is certainly worth the read!
